Deputy PM: Russia among top 3 states by low price of mobile data

MOSCOW, Sep 10 (PRIME) -- Russia is among the top three countries with the lowest price of the mobile Internet, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko said late on Thursday during his congratulations to users of mobile devices and industry representatives on the 30th anniversary of mobile connection in the country.

“In the beginning, only few could afford a mobile phone. Today, even a kid cannot go without it. Over 30 years, the price of a minute of talk has decreased by more than 100 times. Russia is among the top three countries by affordability of the mobile Internet of high quality,” Chernyshenko said.

The Digital Development Ministry values the telecom market at 1.9 trillion rubles, and the Russian Association for Electronic Communications (RAEC) calculated that the industry’s input in the economy of the Runet, the Russian-speaking segment of the Internet, has increased 20% recently, the official said.

The number of active SIM cards exceeds 200 million.
